In Spring 2014, the Military Service Walk was dedicated to the Columbus community. Located in Woodruff Park, eight stainless steel plaques mounted on North Georgia granite monuments bases solemnly rest along a curving path on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Each memorialized stainless steel plaque “letter” has a connection to the Chattahoochee Valley area. The “letters” were sent or received from loved ones from our community during any military conflict . Large boulders harvested from the river, along with brick seat walls are placed at the top of the slope create a somber, elegant space to reflect and rest. A single up-lit American Flag stands guard over the letters. Rolling berms and landscaping complete the Military Service Walk landscape.
